Madison Northrop, age 12

My name is Madison, sometimes people call me Maddie. I am 12 years old. I have a mom, dad, brother, sister and a dog named Rocky.

My heart condition is Anomalous Right Coronary Artery, which means my right artery is sitting next to the left coronary artery. I was 11 years old when they found it.  My surgeon cut the top of the artery so the blood can flow. I was sad because I couldn’t do activities for a year.  But if I had not had the surgery I would not be able to do physical activities for the rest of my life, I may not be able to have any kids, and I would have to take medicine for the rest of my life. I was scared to get surgery, but it was not as bad as I thought. I am better now and I feel great. I can do physical activities with no problems. I don’t have to take medicine or anything. I like interior design and decorating and I love volleyball.

My wish for other children is that they will be okay and the recovery will go by fast. The American Heart Association brings awareness about heart conditions for children and adults and does research to help people in the future.
